An Introduction to the Family Leadership in Language and Learning Center (FL3)

The goal of the FL3 Center is to increase family engagement and leadership, and strengthen family support in Early Hearing Detection & Intervention (EHDI) systems of care in order to enable families to optimize the language, literacy, and social-emotional development of their children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Post-Secondary Transition begins no later than the year a student turns16 as defined by IDEA. Per IDEA, transition is designed to be a results-oriented process that is focused on improving the academic and functional achievement of the student to facilitate movement from school to life after high school. This may include; further education, employment, and/or independent living.

This time transitioning from high school to entering into either the workforce or post-secondary education can be difficult to understand and navigate.

Goals of the Module:

  1. To have a resource for parents and their transition age teens that will support their exploration of life after high school.
  2. Parents will report knowledge and confidence in understanding post-secondary transition.
  3. Transition age teens with report feeling more knowledgeable and prepared for the transition process.

Intended Audience:

  1. Parents and their transition age children.
  2. Teachers and support staff working with transition age students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
